The Reserve edition is not a reformulation of lostinflowers, but rather an archival reserve of the original perfume oil that has been aging quietly for years before being bottled now in this limited release. Because of that maturation process, the scent has evolved naturally over time.
Compared to the current Extrait, the Reserve feels deeper, softer, and more seamless. The floral heart is still unmistakably lostinflowers, but it feels less bright and airy, and more rich, velvety, and intimate. The years-aged red champaca has become especially beautiful, developing a darker golden warmth and a creamier texture. The oud has also mellowed considerably with age, becoming smoother and more integrated into the composition rather than standing apart as a distinct note.
Since the perfume comes directly from an aged archival reserve of the original production, it is also something that can never truly be recreated again, which makes this release feel especially meaningful to us.
A portion of the proceeds from this exclusive release will benefit the Ball’s select charity partners: The King’s Foundation, Room to Read, and Fondation Franco-Britannique de Sillery.

what is oud?
Oud is one of the most expensive substances in the world even pricier than gold, with some types costing up to $100,000 per kilo. It comes from the Aquilaria tree, found only in Southeast Asia.
The tree produces oud resin only when it’s infected by a specific fungus. This resin is then distilled and used in perfumery. The wood is also known as agarwood and can be burned as incense or used for furniture.
Oud has been valued for centuries, but sustainable practices for harvesting it in perfumery are a more recent development.
what’s the difference between synthetic and real oud?
Synthetic oud is made in a lab to mimic the scent of real oud. Most perfume brands choose this option because working with real oud comes with several challenges:
It’s extremely expensive - not just the oud itself, but also the production and finding partners willing to work with it.
It’s hard to source and often limited in supply.
Importing it can be complicated, as it’s a highly regulated and precious material.
There’s also a noticeable difference in scent. Like the difference between synthetic rose oil and pure rose oil, real oud smells more natural, earthy, and powerful - rich with depth and character that synthetics can’t fully match.

We currently source our oud from India, which is known for producing the highest quality oud in Southeast Asia.
Elizabeth first began working with oud in the early 2000s, after a trip to Borneo where she was invited to help promote sustainable ingredients. Over time, we’ve explored many types of oud, but Indian oud has proven to be the perfect match for the Strangelove collection.
